Boekie Woekie, an artist-run bookshop in Amsterdam, opened on January 1st, 1986. Initially, six founders used the tiny space to sell their own publications. Five years later, with three founders remaining, Boekie Woekie moved to a larger location and began stocking publications by other artists and small presses, now boasting around 7,000 titles.
The shop is considered an ongoing collaborative art project. Boekie Woekie also features a small gallery and continues small-scale publishing, participating in international book fairs. This self-financed enterprise is one of the longest-running and most significant venues for artists’ books globally, valuing content over authorial fame.
My two books are now available for sale from Boekie Woekie. Find them here in the Online Store by searching my name “Michael Schulze”.
