Wenn die Gondeln Trauer tragen

Daily writing prompt
How are you creative?

How am I creative? Through photography. I capture fleeting moments when I notice unique sceneries, and that motivates me to take photos. Sometimes, I need peace and solitude, away from the daily hustle. Other times, I thrive on being surrounded by activity and people. Here’s an example of a fleeting moment I experienced as I walked down our staircase.

Who remembers the movie Don’t Look Now? Set in Venice, this film is considered one of the most highly regarded works in British cinema history. It is also seen as an influential classic of its genre. Watching the trailer still gives me goosebumps. The German title is “Wenn die Gondeln Trauer tragen,” which translates to “When the Gondolas Carry Mourning” in English. In Venice in 1999, I took a photo that is hanging in our staircase for years. Over time, it became weathered by moisture, making it look as if tears were running down the image. This reminded me of the film ‘Wenn die Gondeln Trauer tragen.’ It examines the emotions of a couple consumed by grief.

Today, I photographed this scenery once more—a photo of a photo, now with a new meaning behind it. It might not be the most uplifting thing to share during the Christmas season. However, I wanted to share it with the world. For anyone who’s curious now, here’s the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLHSjNgR3VU
